AUSTIN (KXAN) - A sinkhole caused by a wastewater line break has shut down a part of Dessau Road Friday morning.

The 12000 block of Dessau Road will remain closed until rush hour, officials said, as the Austin Water Utility works to make repairs to the 8-inch wastewater line.

AWU spokesman Kevin Buchman said they were notified of the leak and damage caused by the leak around 10 a.m. Friday.

The southbound lanes of Dessau Road have been closed, and repairs to the wastewater line are expected to be completed by Sunday.

Meanwhile, traffic on Dessau Road has been reduced to one lane in each direction near the site of the repair.

AWU officials encourage motorists to avoid the area until repairs are complete and the road is reopened.

Officials said the wastewater that normally flows through the damaged line is being diverted through other pumping operations.
