AUSTIN (KXAN) - When weather warms up, that means the return of some very unwelcome pests - like mosquitoes.
Thanks to the work of some Austin sisters, there's a unique new product that may remove bugs from you, certain outside areas or even pets.
It is thin plastic with a magnetic strip, but it is not a credit card. This is a bug repellent.
"Once you put them on, it takes anywhere from 24- to 48 hours to create a full barrier," said Kathy Heiney, co-creator of shoo! TAG.
“Shoo! TAG is a revolutionary product that uses a magnetic strip that is coded with frequencies," said Melissa Rogers, shoo! TAG co-creator.
Shoo! TAG is touted as new way of getting rid of fleas and ticks on dogs or cats, bugs off of horses and anything flying or irritating off of people. It has no smell and requires no lotions or sprays.
"No chemicals whatsoever, 100 percent green,” said Rogers.
Shoo! TAG is the creation of two Austin sisters who found a niche but never thought they would go into bioenergetic technology.
"I'm a mother. I'm a grandmother. I was a paralegal for 25 years, and I got into bioenergetics,” said Heiney. “At one point and time in my life, I would have never thought we'd be family business owners."
When the sisters started their business, they were in a 770-square-foot garage, but within a year's time, they moved to a factory more than double the size. They have hired more than a dozen employees, and they said they may be expanding soon.
"Phenomenally successful. We've sold on a distributor level, roughly $600,000 worth," said Rogers.
Despite the down economy, they started a business and successfully brought in more than 1 million in retail sales.
Shoo! TAG creators said the tags repel bugs for up to four months, and the cost starts at about $24.
