CALDWELL COUNTY (KXAN) - The severe thunderstorm alerts in the area's southern counties have expired. The storm is now past Austin and headed east through Giddings. An early morning cold front stirred up our atmosphere to the point of creating several storms that reached severe limits.
Storms that developed West of San Antonio slowly rolled east and brought rain, lightning, strong winds and hail, which in some cases hail that triggered severe thunderstorm warnings for counties south of Austin, including Caldwell County.
These storms dropped hail as large 3/4 inch and up to 1 inch of rain. Thunderstorm warnings have all expired for our viewing area, but these storms represent what could again develop on Thursday and possibly again on Saturday.
A Severe Thunderstorm Warning was in effect for Caldwell County
through 9:15 a.m., and pea-to-marble-sized hail has been observed
as these storms roll east. Of course, heavy rain and lightning can
be expected.
This is all part of a cold front that rolled through Central
Texas Tuesday morning and could be repeated on Thursday as another
front rolls in. A chance of rain is also possible this
Thursday.
