Samsung gives United Way nonprofit $1M

United Way Capital Area to use for 'Success by 6'

AUSTIN (KXAN) - Samsung Electronics Co. is making a $1 million donation Wednesday to United Way Capital Area for the nonprofit's Success by 6 program .

Success by 6 helps expand early education for underprivileged preschool children and prepare them for elementary school.

The company announced in June plans to invest $3.6 billion to expand its Northeast Austin "Fab 2" manufacturing plant .

Gov. Rick Perry is set to speak at the Austin Chamber of Commerce luncheon Wednesday afternoon to celebrate Samsung's $3.6 billion investment in the Central Texas community.

The company said the United Way donation is a way of celebrating the expansion.

The $3.6 billion expansion will increase Samsung's Austin employment by 600 jobs to 1,600 by  2011.
