AUSTIN (KXAN) - Austin police are investigating a deadly car accident that occurred in Walnut Creek Metropolitan Park in North Austin Wednesday night. Officers said one person who was enjoying the park came back to their vehicle to find three men near it. He told police they looked suspicious.
Authorities said when those men noticed the person coming towards them, they got spooked, jumped into their pickup truck and took off. Police said the truck was traveling too fast to negotiate a turn and flipped. The man in the bed of the truck was killed.
"The two people that were here at the inside of the truck did flee the scene, but officers were able to detain those two subjects, and investigators are on scene right now investigating as well as talking to two people that were leaving the truck," said Sgt. James Mason with the Austin Police Department.
Police also reported a child being hit by a driver that did not stop their car. It happened on Tallow Tree Drive in Southeast Austin just north of Stassney Lane. APD said the child had serious injuries but did not have any further information.
