Accident leaves 1 teen dead, 1 charged

AUSTIN (KXAN) - New information details the victim of Wednesday's fatal accident North Austin's Walnut Creek Metropolitan Park was a teenager. The teenager riding in the bed of the truck was killed instantly after the 15-year-old driver lost control trying to negotiate a turn after speeding off from the park, flipping the truck over near Lamar Boulevard and Parmer Lane .

The driver and the passenger ran away but were eventually caught, and the Austin Police Department is charging the female driver with failure to stop and render aid.

The speedy drive began after officers said a person at the park came back to their vehicle to find three men near it, saying they looked suspicious. Authorities said when those men noticed the person coming towards them, they got spooked, jumped into their pickup truck and took off.

This is the 10th traffic fatality of 2009.
