AUSTIN (KXAN) - The Monday morning commute was slow-going for drivers as nearly two dozens crashes backed up traffic around Austin. The Department of Public Safety was on the scene of a three-car accident at FM 969 and Imperial that sent three children to the hospital.
DPS said one child was ejected from a Tahoe when it spun out of control, crossed the center line and struck another vehicle. A third car crashed as a result of the first collision, and the young child was in critical condition.
The slick road and foggy conditions contributed to the accident, in addition to two child safety seats found inside the Tahoe that were not installed properly.
"It's great that she got them, but you need to use them properly or it really doesn't do your kids all that much good," said DPS Trooper J. VandenBos.
Continuous light drizzle saturated roads Monday, and by noon, DPS had worked four accidents and the Austin Police Department had been dispatched to 15 accidents. DPS urges drivers to take it slow and allow extra time to get to their destinations.
