Rain helps conservation, not drought
Austin Water usage numbers dropped over weekend

AUSTIN (KXAN) - The weekend rain did little to quench the recent draught, but it did provide a help to Austin Water Utility.
The water utility says water usage on Sunday dropped nearly 40 million gallons from the average water usage of 200 million for a weekend day.
“There has been a definite and immediate impact for us because of the rain,” said Austin Water Utility spokesman Jason Hill. “Most people did not use their outdoor irrigation system because Mother Nature did it for us.”
Parts of Austin received a little more than two inches of rain. That amount is not likely to make a significant impact on the drought, but Hill hopes rain coupled with cooler temperatures should help water conservation during stage 2 restrictions.
“Our customers are doing a great job with conservations and we are seeing that with the numbers. With some help from Mother Nature, we are doing well in Austin.”
