One dead after motorcycle crash

Fourth of July crash happened on Congress Avenue

AUSTIN (KXAN) - A 53-year-old man died on his Harley Davidson motorcycle Sunday night after broadsiding a truck on South Congress Avenue.

At 10:19 p.m., Austin police responded to a crash at South Congress Avenue near St. Edward's University .

Police said a preliminary investigation showed a 2005 Chevrolet pickup was exiting a private drive on the west side of the road. The motorcycle was traveling southbound on South Congress Avenue when it T-boned the driver’s side of the Chevrolet.

Austin-Travis County EMS transported the motorcyclist to University Medical Center Brackenridge , where he was pronounced dead. He was not wearing a helmet.

Meanwhile, the driver of the Chevrolet was not injured.

Police said it is unknown if alcohol or speed were factors in this crash.

Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to call APD Vehicular Homicide Unit detectives at (512) 974-8212. This case remains under investigation.

This is the 26th fatality of 2010. At this time in 2009, there were 38 fatalities in Austin.
