AUSTIN (KXAN) - Occupy Austin is into Day 5 of its takeover at City Hall, surviving even a rare downpour throughout the weekend.
Heading into the daylight hours on Monday, the goal continues to be to have a 24/7 presence through the beginning of December.
The crowd has gotten smaller every day since Thursday, which drew 1,300 people. Still, a few hundred marched on Friday to the Bank of America on Congress Avenue to protest.
Organizers have said the purpose of the Occupy movement is to have a conversation about corporate greed and how it only benefits the richest 1 percent of America.
Protesters in Austin said they are trying to be out here as much as they can.
Rain did not stop hundreds of people from occupying Austin's City Hall on Saturday, which marked a third straight day for protestors .
Although rain clobbered a crowd of a couple hundred, many stayed and held handmade signs that took shots at corporate greed and the income disparity in America .
There are other protestors who have been out at
City Hall for the past three days.
Many have sleeping bags and pillows and plan to stay out indefinitely.
Ralliers are being met with hecklers. Some people are driving by yelling at people holding signs and telling them to get jobs. Others are making profane signs.
Police have not had to intervene, but KXAN News is aware of one arrest that happened Friday. The person arrested is facing a public intoxication charge.
