AUSTIN (KXAN) - The new rain-safe pavement on MoPac Boulevard was put to the test on Friday morning with the Thursday night and early Friday rains.

Texas Department of Transportation resurfaced the road from RM 2222 to Enfield Road with a new permeable asphalt  which is supposed to dry quicker in the rain.

Views on early morning traffic cameras showed the surface with the new pavement looked drier than the shiny surfaces on the adjacent frontage road.

TxDOT is expected to finish the repaving of the $3.5 million project by the end of September.
