AUSTIN (KXAN) - On the last big tubing day of the summer season William Godfrey and friends from Austin hit the Guadalupe River before rains from Hermine hit.
"Good end of the summer, finish it up," said Godfrey.
At the Gruene River Company workers drove buses to higher ground, moved electronics and grills, and locked up tubes and storage sheds.
"I think after the last flood that did catch us off guard that much. Some are kind of leery," said Gruene River Co. Manager Robert Harris.
Many are more mindful after flash flooding in June killed one camper and scattered debris which can still be seen in tree tops from today.
"We hope that was a unique situation but we always have to plan for the worst," said New Braunfels Fire Marshal Patrick O'Connell.
The city of New Braunfels operations center is set up. Extra first responders were scheduled to work overnight. Emergency leaders are keeping in close touch with river businesses, and they are prepared to use the city's reverse 911 system to inform residents of potential high-rising water.
"Out of an abundance of caution we want to make sure everybody is prepared. Nobody knows what Hermine will bring, but one thing is for sure, New Braunfels is prepared for it. We'll just be ready for it this time," said O'Connell.
