AUSTIN (KXAN) - A 30-year-old man is in the Travis County jail after allegedly intentionally running into the back of his estranged girlfriend's car as she left a South Austin nightclub Tuesday morning.
Austin Police said Byron Trinidad Garcia, a convicted felon, chased Cathy Mojica and her friend Christie Saucedo in his vehicle and repeatedly rammed into the back of their car, nearly causing them to run off the road. The incident happened near Fort View Road and Manchaca Road.
According to the arrest affidavit, Garcia also fired shots at the victim's car.
Officers pursued Garcia until a street he was driving on came to a dead end. Police said Garcia abandoned his vehicle and took off running and was able to elude officers.
Police latser located Garcia and took him into custody.
Saucedo told police that she and Garcia have been dating for the past six months, but they had recently ended their relationship.
Garcia is being held for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, a second-degree felony. Bond was set at $250,000.
He has a history of convictions which include engaging in organized crime, possession of a controlled substance, burglary and a previous aggravated assault with a deadly weapon charge.
