Firefighters battled 20-acre grass fire

Six cities respond to blaze

TAYLOR, Texas (KXAN) - Firefighter units from six cities are battling a 20-acre grass fire in Taylor, Texas at 2750 FM 1063 , which near the intersection of Highway 79 and FM 1063 near Thrall, Texas . It was 100 percent contained at 2 p.m.

The fire started at approximately 11:30 a.m. , and burned approximately 15 to 20 acres, including an abandoned structure and an outbuilding.

Though the fire engulfed two abandoned outbuildings, officials said no occupied structures are threatened. Firefighters from Coupland, Granger, Taylor, Thrall, Thorndale and Weir are responding and have 85 percent of the fire contained.

Williamson County Sheriff's deputies closed down FM 425 and FM 1063 because of the fire; however the roads are now open.

A firefighter with the Taylor Volunteer Fire Department was transported to John’s Hospital in Taylor, and treated for heat exhaustion.

Williamson County is under a burn ban which prohibits the burning of household yard waste and burning to clear land. The purpose of the ban is to ease the hazard posed by wild fires druing the current hot and dry weather.
