LAKEWAY, Texas (KXAN) - Lakeway police are testing out some new technology that the Austin Police Department has also taken some recent interest in.
Officers already have cameras in their police cruiser, but now cameras are hooked directly up to officers -- either on their hat or through a headband-like device.
Officers have been testing them out for a few weeks and said the impact of the cameras could be wide-reaching.
"It not only assists in the field but also when it comes to prosecuting these cases -- less investigating time, less court time, less cases contested in court," said LPD Senior Sgt. Ken Farr. "So, it's a win-win for us."
The Lakeway Police Department is even considering using the body cameras instead of replacing dash cameras in cop cars.
Meanwhile, Austin police started testing similar devices earlier this year.
