AUSTIN (KXAN) - The Federal Aviation Administration fixed a glitch in its computer system after experiencing widespread problems Thursday morning.

An official at the Austin-Bergstrom International Airport tower said their computers were not part of the reported problem with the nation’s FAA flight information computers.

There were widespread flight cancellations and delays nationwide because of the problem with the FAA system that collects airlines' flight plans.

Because of the system glitch, some flights had to be monitored manually.

The air traffic controllers still had radar coverage and radio communication with the planes, so flights were still able to take off and land.

At 7:45 a.m., an analysis of ABIA flight data showed most flights were scheduled to leave Austin on time.

There was a slight delay of a scheduled 10:55 a.m. Delta flight to Atlanta, where some problems have been reported.

ABIA spokesman Jim Halbrook urges passengers to check their flight status before going to the airport, which passengers can do online.
