AUSTIN (KXAN) - One Austin Homeless Outreach hopes to get more people permanently off the streets - with a mobile community center!
"Homeless Coach" is gutting a donated RV so they can re-model the interior. When it's finished it will provide a comfortable place for homeless folks to meet with case-workers trying to help them find a place to live.
They can also get internet access, and do some face-to-face networking.
"The purpose for the mobility is to park it outside a restaurant if they're donating a meal that's being shared. We concentrate on getting donations from Austin original restaurants," said one participant.
This is just "Phase 1" of the project.
Once the RV is gutted, they'll start rebuilding. They said they hope to hit the road in October.
