Fireworks caused pets to panic, officials said

AUSTIN (KXAN) - The Town Lake Animal Center is asking owners whose pets went missing during the fireworks to check and see if they are among the influx of pets that have arrived at the shelter after the loud Independence Day weekend.

Each year, fireworks shows cause pets to panic and escape leashes, cars and backyards during fireworks shows - and concerned residents collect them and turn them in to the shelter to help find the owners.

“We have seen an increase of animals that were picked up by our Animal Protection Unit and dropped off by citizens following the July 4th fireworks displays,” said Filip Gecic, operations manager at Town Lake Animal Center. “We are asking residents who have lost their animals to come to TLAC to look for them.”

The Town Lake Animal Center is located at 1156 W. Cesar Chavez St.. More information is also available at the shelter's website .
