MARBLE FALLS, Texas (KXAN) - The last bit of damage from the July 2007 flood that swept through Marble Falls is expected to be fixed over the next 18 months. The Third Street bridge and the Avenue J low water crossing, that both help alleviate traffic along Highway 281, are at the top of the list. "It has slowed down transportation through our community," said Assistant City Manager Ralph Hendricks.

The Federal Emergency Management Agency has agreed to fund 75 percent of the flood recovery projects. The city came up with the remaining 25 percent. Additional repairs include replacing the sand volleyball court and boat dock at Johnson Park, plus the canoe dock in Falls Park. The Lower Colorado River Authority plans on lowering Lake Marble Falls at the beginning of January to enable the city to complete the repairs.

"It will be good for business," said Geoffrey, a volunteer at the Marble Fall Library Thrift Store. He was happy to hear the 3rd Street bridge, located right behind the business, will hopefully be fixed by March 2009. Geoffrey will never forget the 19 inches of rain that fell June 27, 2007.

"We think we're going to be much better after the recovery process is complete," said Hendricks. Hurricane Ike has pushed back FEMA's approval of another project to safely remove debris and sediment from creeks beds around town.
