(KXAN) - The Hill Country Area Crime Stoppers is hoping the sluggish economy will help solve a crime. Crime Stoppers offers a $2,000 reward to anyone whose tip leads to the arrest and conviction of a crime, and the organization is once again putting the word out a case about the death of Alan Wayne Huggins, hoping someone comes forward to shed some light on what happened when Huggins went camping at Schaffer Bend Park but never returned home.
"He was discovered at his camp site," said Janie Prew, with the Hill Country Crime Stoppers. "There was trauma to his head and through the neck. It was an obvious homicide"
It was Feb. 7, 2008 when Alan Huggins went on a hunting and fishing trip at Schaffer Bend Park in Burnet County. It was an outing that the avid outdoorsman had done before. The big difference was that this time he did not return home. His murder had been added to the Hill Country Crime Stoppers cold case list, because it has been almost a year and no one has ever been arrested for Huggins' death.
"It's a closed case and the family wants closure," said Prew. "They want something to happen with it."
After the body of Alan Huggins was found, the Burnet County Sheriff's Office did receive a few leads, but since then no leads or tips. That is why they are reminding people about the reward that may lead to a killer.
"We're offering a $2,000 reward for any information," said Prew. "Not arrest or conviction, but information only."
Getting tax free money and doing the right thing is what Pew hopes will encourage a tipster, so that Burnet County Police will catch Huggins' killer. After this story aired on Thursday, Crime Stoppers received a tip.
