BURNET, Texas (KXAN) - The city of Burnet has changed companies that provides its emergency mass notification. The transition to Emergency Communications Network's CodeRED system began in early October, officials announced Monday.
CodeRED has acquired all of the previous provider's Government Emergency Center / 911 clients.
Officials said the new provider's system includes web-based features for communicating time-sensitive messages that were not available with the former company.
Citizens who had previously registered contact information were transferred over to the new system. However, they are encouraged to go to the website and register current information, including email and text addresses where they want to receive notices.
Residents may also choose to opt-out of general notifications, such as information about road work or other community announcements.
To access the new CodeRED section on the city of Burnet's website , click on the "CodeRED" logo to register information.
In addition, the CodeRED Mobile Alert app provides users geo-based public safety alerts that impact them at their current location. The app provides an additional method for the city of Burnet to communicate messages to not only local residents, but also to those traveling through the area.
“Once you sign up, even if you travel to another CodeRED community, you will be able to access those alerts as well,” said David Vaughn, Burnet city manager. “This is a really useful and unique feature that we are excited to begin using in the near future,” he added.
