MARBLE FALLS, Texas (KXAN) - While Austin's Trail of Lights festival missed last Christmas because of no sponsorship, the Marble Falls "Walkway of Lights" has kicked off for 22 year in a row.

The festival weekend has been growing in popularity over the years, Friday drawing about 1,500 visitors.

Dominic Boreego came from San Antonio to see the festive display.

"It's pretty it's beautiful, if I had my lawn like this I'd be pretty impressed," said Boreego.

"We saw the lights, were trying to get into the Christmas spirit, this is awesome, this is a nice things the locals do," said visitor Jeff Capera.

But before the lights were turned on, lots of planning was put into the annual event.

According to Julia Adams of the Marble Falls Chamber of Commerce, "It took a month and a half to repair the lights, get it out here and then repair some more lights and so it takes a while and even during the week."

This year Austin's Trail of Lights is powered by sponsors. In Marble Falls, the kindness of the community is keeping the lights on.

"We're seeing good donations, you know, every little bit helps," said Adams. "We don't ask for a lot, every little thing helps but we cannot do without donations, there's just no way we can deal without donations."

The display will be open to the public until Jan. 1.
