CEDAR PARK, Texas (KXAN) - Counselors were on hand at Leander High School Thursday after one of their students was killed Wednesday evening after being hit by an 18-wheeler.

It happened on U.S. Highway 183 just south of Block House Drive just after 7:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Enzo Padua, 15, was upbeat, a glass-half-full kind of guy, said his friends.

"He was a really nice person, he was loud and energetic," said Marilyn, an 11th grade at Leander High School.

Classmates said he loved to dress up in Superhero outfits any chance he could.

News of the deadly incident quickly spread throughout the school.

"A lot of individuals were crying and taken by it, " said 10th grader Grace Powell.

At the north end of that section of U.S. 183 there are several neighborhoods, and on the south end are dozens of stores and shops -- but no sidewalk to connect the two.

People who live in the area said they often see people walking on the shoulder and it is extremely dangerous.

The driver hasn't been ticketed and the incident is still under investigation.
