AUSTIN (KXAN) - In light of recent tragedy no one is taking chances anymore.
Lake Travis ISD locked down all eight of its campuses Wednesday afternoon, after a parent reported a suspicious person who may have been armed near Lake Travis Elementary.
The district includes five elementary schools, two middle schools and Lake Travis High.
District spokesperson Marco Alvarado says, "In this day and age we take these things very seriously so our local law enforcement came in and conducted a sweep of the entire premises."
Lakeway police were assisted in their search by Travis County deputies. No one was found and the all clear was given around 4 p.m. -- two hours after the initial report.
"Sadly we're getting good at this [lock downs]," said Lt. Ken Farr of the Lakeway PD, "This is the second we've had in a year, the last being at the high school I saw a big difference this time, particularly with the school administrators. They're Johnny on the spot."
Parents waited in long lines to retrieve their children, worry and relief on their faces.
Parent Kim Bailey says, "It was freaky, but I'm happy now. They said there wasn't anybody, it was just a precaution. I'd rather them be safe than something happen."
Many or most parents got the news immediately thanks to the district's advanced School Messenger system.
It includes email, web site updates, phone messages, text messaging and social media updates.
The system is of some comfort to parents, but these are just not the kind off messages they want to receive.
