KERRVILLE, Texas (KXAN) -

Kerrville area announcers that have carried his football games through high school and Texas A&M say the town folks are thrilled to have Johnny Manziel represent little Kerrville in New York this weekend.

They're covering his every step live on their station this Saturday night even sending their sports team to the Big Apple.

"People have gone nuts. People have gone completely nuts", said Harley David Belew, general manager of Revolution Broadcasting. "You got store owners that have given up their marquee space in Christmas time and they want to tell Johnny, 'Go Johnny Go,' or Heisman all the way."

In town, folks are also excited at the prospect of having their home town kid win the biggest college award of them all. They say they can't believe little Johnny's' done so well. Even casual football watchers have become big time Johnny football fans.

In the place where Manziel graduated just two years ago, they're watching him very closely this weekend. They hope he'll capture the Heisman trophy and bring it back to Tivy High School.

Gail Howard works at the athletic directors office at Johnny's old high school. She says she always knew how special he was.

" Watching his through high school I knew he could play college ball" said Howard. "I knew how exciting he was."

Even an old coach says players like Manziel are hard to come by. "He's very humble. He's very mature," said Steve Repee. "I think it would be a great boost for the A&M program."
