GILLESPIE COUNTY, Texas (KXAN) - The Gillespie County Jail is still under the state's watchful eye, despite positive reviews this month.
The 35-year-old facility came under fire three months ago for overcrowding issues.
However, the Texas Commission on Jail Standards said the jail is back in compliance but could still be shut down if it exceeds its 15-inmate maximum.
Overflow inmates are going to Kerr and Bandera counties in the short-term, but there is talk amongst county officials of a new, bigger jail in Gillespie County sometime in the near future.
