Injured soldier receives a new home

"Operation FINALLY Home" has built 50 homes

JONESTOWN, Texas (KXAN) - There's a special home being built in Jonestown, at no cost to the new owner.

Operation Finally Home (OFH) is a non-profit created by Bay Area Builders Association for wounded soldiers and their families.

"What better way could there possibly be for a group of builders, suppliers and realtors to give back then to do what we do for a living, build homes," said Lee Kirgan of OFH.

OFH has built 50 homes in 11 states so far for wounded soldiers and their families.

"They end up lighting up our lives, which it's incredible," said Kirgan.

After dodging bullets in Iraq, it was a drunk driver who paralyzed  24 year-old, Augie Pena.

Pena was an Army reservist who was helping a friend change a tire when he was hit by the drunk driver.

Even though Augie didn't receive his injuries on the battlefield, OFH said he still honorably served his country.

The non-profit teamed up with two local builders, Henley Homes, Inc. and Silverton Custom Homes to start building a three bedroom, two bath home in Jonestown for Augie.

The land was donated by a couple in Houston, while dozens of other businesses donated material.

"To know that people are there and will care for you, looking out for you," Augie said.

Augie will get the keys to his new home in March along with a clear title and the first year's insurance and taxes paid for.
