MARBLE FALLS, Texas (KXAN) - A head-on collision in Marble Falls Friday morning killed a teen and a Burnet County employee.

The call came in about 8 a.m. Friday regarding the two-vehicle crash involving a county dump truck and a white pickup on State Highway 71, just three miles east of U.S. Highway 281 .

Texas Department of Public Safety officials said both drivers died at the scene after the pickup traveling eastbound on SH 71 crossed the double yellow lines and struck the westbound dump truck head-on at 7:37 a.m.

The impact knocked off the dump truck's rear axel, and it rolled and caught on fire.

Officials said the driver of the pickup was a 17-year-old male, and the dump truck driver was a Burnet County Precinct 4 worker around 50 years old.

Investigators were on scene throughout the morning and into the noon hour.

DPS officials said they do not know why the pickup crossed into the other lane. Officials said they also don't know if alcohol was a factor.

The collision remains under investigation.

Meanwhile, the east- and westbound lanes of SH 71 near U.S. Highway 281 reopened just before 12:15 p.m. Friday, after several hours of being shut down.
