BURNET, Texas (KXAN) - A crash between two cars on rain-slick U.S. Highway 281 near Burnet left two dead and two in the hospital on Sunday afternoon.

A mother traveling in the southbound lane in the 2600 block of South Water in her 2004 Hyundai car lost control of the car as it hydroplaned. She swerved into the northbound lane, colliding with another car.

According to Burnet Police Chief Paul Nelson, Sheryl Evans, 39, and her 8-year-old son, Caeden Obregon, died on impact from the crash.

The passenger and driver of the other car were being treated at the Seton Highlands Hospital. They have been identified as Larry and Sarah Stewart of Troy, near Temple.

Investigation of the accident is still ongoing at this time. Burnet police will be assisted by the Department of Public Safety, Burnet County Sheriff's Office and Burnet Fire/EMS.

Officials from Hill Country Children's Advocacy Center said Sheryl Evans' mother, Yvonne Evans, was the founder of the organization. Yvonne Evans remains a board member.

The funeral service is scheduled for 1 p.m. on Wednesday at First Christian Church, located at 204 E. Graves St. in Burnet.
