BURNET, Texas (KXAN) - Being a firefighter and EMT, Don has seen his share of tragic
accidents, so he's careful to warn others not to take unnecessary
risks with his photography hobby.
"At first thought I captured it, but then I put it on the
computer," said Don Neighbor, Burnet firefighter and EMT. "I saw
that it was a pretty, in my book, what I call a wicked shot."
That wicked shot was a bolt of lightening striking just a few hundred feet from his home in Northeast Burnet.
"I saw the clouds building earlier in the day and knew that there was gonna be hopefully some chance of rain," said Don. "And it actually developed into something a little bit better than just rain, in my book, beause I can take pictures of lighting and I have for years and I enjoy it."
However, Don said he would not encourage people to hang around when there's lightning that close.
"I would definitely go indoors," said Don. "If you're outside in a large field, try to seek shelter if you can. Because it is 'Mother Nature' - you never know where it's going to strike or when it's going to strike."
