SAN SABA, Texas (AP/KXAN) — Investigators say a caretaker and the retired businesswoman she worked for have been slain in Central Texas and two suspects are held.
San Saba County Sheriff Allen Brown said Tuesday that a man and his common-law wife are charged with murder.
Brown says the body of Bonnie Harkey, 85, was found Monday night buried in Leon County. The body of Karen Gail Johnson, 50, was discovered Sunday by her young son at the Harkey home, near Harkveyville.
Autopsies have been ordered and the causes of death are still pending. Harkey owned a pecan farm in the area.
Brown says Carl Wade Pressley, 28, and Lillian Annette King, 25, are charged in Johnson's death. Bond is $500,000 for Pressley. King is held on $250,000 bond. Information was not immediately available on attorneys for them.
Officials said Pressley is an adopted grandson of Harkey .
The two suspects live several blocks away on the same street as Johnson did, according Texas drivers' license records.
On Monday, deputies said Johnson’s son called them to report that his mother had fallen and was unresponsive. When they arrived at the home, the discovered the woman was dead and Harkey was missing.
