BURNET COUNTY, Texas (KXAN) - One person is dead after a motorcycle accident in Burnet County on Monday afternoon.

The Department of Public Safety said the accident happened just after 4 p.m. on FM 1980, just one mile north of RR 1431.

Initial reports indicate that the Carl New, 23, was on a motorcycle following a family member's car when he decided to pass them. The family member told investigators New went into the oncoming lanes to pass them and when he tried to swerve back into the correct lane, he ran off the road.

The victim was thrown from his motorcycle and struck a metal pipe, where he died.
