ROUND MOUNTAIN, Texas (KXAN) - The two remaining bank robbery suspects were caught Saturday afternoon in Johnson City. One suspect was arrested early Friday.
The sheriff's office said three men ambushed an employee at Cattleman's National Bank in Round Mountain just before 7 a.m. as he was unlocking the back door. The employee said they held him at gunpoint and forced him inside the building.
Somehow, the employee managed to alert police, who were outside before the men could take any money. The men then used the employee as a hostage and a shield to escape. The employee suffered a minor injury but was later released from medical care.
One man was caught shortly after the robbery just west of the bank. Police said the men left their vehicle at the bank. The other two suspects were captured Saturday.
The investigation included a five-mile parameter of the bank. They searched the ditches along the highway with rifles during the morning rainfall. They even brought out K-9 teams and horses, enlisting the help of duputies from Burnet and Llano Counties.
Police said the men were Hispanic, each wearing black ski masks and gray jackets. That description is very similar to another armed bank robbery in neighboring Blanco last month.
In late October, the Security State Bank there was robbed. During that robbery, two employees were tied up by men in dark ski masks.
No one was hurt in the October robbery, but the robbers got away with an undisclosed amount of cash and have still not been caught, investigators said. There is no word if these two robberies are connected.
Cattleman's National Bank is on the same plot of land as KXAN Austin News' Hill Country bureau.
