BURNET, Texas (KXAN) - City of Burnet officials issued a boil water notice for some citizens affected by a water line break.

Citizens living south of Hamilton Creek along Highway 281 South, as well as Eagles Nest Subdivision, are advised to boil their water prior to consumption until testing can be completed to assure water quality.

City crews responded to a water line break that happened Saturday night and isolated the leak.

Officials issued the boil notice as a precautionary measure until testing determines if the quality of the water has been compromised. These results may not be available until Tuesday morning, at the earliest.

The Texas Commission on Environmental Quality requires the boil water notice to be issued any time the system is exposed to untreated water, regardless of the severity of the breach.

To ensure destruction of all harmful bacteria and other microbes, water for drinking, cooking and ice-making should be boiled and cooled prior to consumption.

The water should be brought to a vigorous rolling boil and then boiled for two minutes. In lieu of boiling, you may purchase bottled water or obtain water from some other source.

When it is no longer necessary to boil the water, water system officials will notify KXAN as well as post it on the City of Burnet Web site.
