LLANO COUNTY, TEXAS - A body was recovered from Inks Lake Thursday afternoon, officials say.
John Neff, Chief Deputy with Llano County Sheriff’s Office says the body was found around 10am Thursday under the Highway 29 bridge.
Neff says the sheriff’s office is investigating the situation as a crime until an autopsy can be performed Friday in Travis County. LCRA police, who are assisting in the investigation, call the find “suspicious.”
Officials say the body was so badly decomposed, they don’t know if it is a male or a female.
“Anytime there is a situation like this, we’ll be cross referencing missing persons cases in Llano and surrounding counties,” Neff said during a telephone interview Thursday.
Neff says DPS, the Texas Rangers, LCRA, Texas Parks and Wildlife and Buchanan Volunteer Fire Department.
No other information is being provided by LCRA or the Llano County Sheriff’s Office.
Inks is one of the seven lakes that make up the Highland Lakes chain. According to the Texas Parks and Wildlife website, the lake is usually unaffected by drought, as it is maintained at normal level most of the time.
The lake shares a border with Llano and Burnet Counties.
