BLANCO CO (KXAN) - A 100-acre wildfire just outside Johnson CIty is now under control after a 24-hour stand-off with firefighters.

A request for assistance came in about 3 p.m. on Sunday afternoon. About 30 Blanco County residences were potentially threatened by the fire, which was located about 9 miles east of Johnson City on Pedernales Hills Drive. The fire was not a threat to the nearby Pedernales Falls State Park.

This is one of a string of wildfires throughout Central Texas this summer, and it came within feet of one home. It took 24 hours and 40 firefighters to bring this fire under control. Out-of-state crews were on the scene, along with fire crews from Stonewall, Johnson City and the Texas Forest Service.

Some residents helped dig ditches. A few homeowners voluntarily evacuated.

The Texas Forest Service responded with a helicopter and two single-engine air tankers, which are similar to cropdusters. Today, bulldozers were on the scene to block the spread of flames.
