Austin man killed in fiery Llano crash

LLANO, Texas (KXAN) - A fiery crash following a police chase killed an Austin man last weekend in Llano County.

Gregory Jaffers, 21, died Sunday just before 10 p.m. after allegedly evading a Llano police officer.

Llano police said Jafers was traveling east on State Highway 71 when Officer Allyn Rub attempted to pull him over for speeding. Rub was traveling in the opposite direction had to turn around before pursuing Jafers.

Police said the pursuit ended after a few minutes, and the police department contacted the Llano County Sheriff's Office for assistance. Deupties found Jafers' 2002 Toyota Avalon flipped over and on fire with Jafers still inside along SH 71 near Sandstone Ranch, about five miles east of Llano.

Jaffers had no known criminal record, and the Department of Public Safety is investigating the incident.
