SAN MARCOS, Texas (KXAN) - San Marcos police are investigating a violent attack on a woman on Wednesday morning outside of the Aspen Heights Apartment complex.

There is no suspect description at this time, police said.

“There have been no other reports of this type of assault occurring, but there have been other delayed reports by residents in multiple apartment complexes waking in the middle of the night to find a stranger in their apartment,” said Commander Penny Dunn, Criminal Investigations.

According to San Marcos police, this attack occurred outside of an apartment while the victim was walking from her car to a residence around 1 a.m. on Wednesday.

The victim received non-life-threatening injuries and was treated and released by a Central Texas hospital.

Sgt. Mike Wellman of the San Marcos police department said, he has compared notes with APD detective on the case of the assault that happened recently in Austin and they do not believe the two cases are related.

Wellman said, "they issued the release as more of an alert that this happened and to be on your guard."

Police advise the public to be aware of their surroundings and to immediately report any suspicious activity by calling 911.

Police are asking anyone with information related to this case to call the San Marcos Police Department Criminal Investigation Division at 512-753-2300 or the non-emergency number 512-753-2108.
