SAN MARCOS, Texas (KXAN) - Residents of the city of San Marcos are allowed to return to Stage 2 water restrictions as of Friday, officials announced on Wednesday.
San Marcos has been under Stage 3 water restrictions since late August, but due to the amount of recent rain, has lessened effects of the drought.
Under Stage 2 restrictions, sprinkler systems can only be used once a week and must be on a designated weekday determined by address.
The use of soaker hoses, drip irrigation and hand watering is allowed any day before 10 a.m. and after 8 p.m.
The restrictions also limit at-home car washing to only one day per week.
Stage 2 restrictions also prohibit filling new swimming pools and using outdoor decorative water features. Washing paved surfaces is also prohibited.
San Marcos was at Stage 1 watering restrictions up until May 7, and then changed to stage 3 as the aquifers supplying water to more than 2 million people had a steep decline.
The full list of Stage 2 rules are available on the city of San Marcos website.
For more information contact Jan Klein, conservation coordinator, at 512-393-8310.
