SAN MARCOS, Texas (KXAN) - San Marcos police on Sunday were searching for a man accused of sexually assaulting a woman near the campus of Texas State University.
Police said Jonathan Porterie, 22, is wanted in a crime that happened at the University Club Apartments, about 3 1/2 miles from campus, around 3:30 a.m.
"She had come home and he had entered her apartment illegally and committed the sexual assault on her, said Penny Dunn, an investigator with the San Marcos Police Department.
Texas State Assistant Athletics Director Rick Poulter confirmed that Porterie was a walk-on player with the Bobcats' football team in the spring of 2011. The wide receiver was released before the regular season and never played for the team during the regular season.
Porterie is a former resident of the apartment complex and was arrested twice in September for entering unlocked apartments of various women. The apartment complex evicted him right after the incident.
On Sept. 4 he was accused of illegally entering an apartment and making physical contact with the victim. He left after the woman and roommate confronted him. He was charged with burglary of habitation with intent to commit a felony.
On Sept. 7 he was charged with criminal trespass of a habitation, after a woman discovered him in her room standing near her bed.
"Both of those incidents happened with different victims and different apartments when he was a resident there," said Dunn.
The circumstances now have the community on edge, but for some it's an opportunity to learn a valuable lesson.
"I guess I will make sure to keep both of the doors locked," said Lauren Gutierrez, who lives at the complex. "Both the top and the dead bolt -- that's all we can do."
Police are asking for help in the search for Porterie. Officers believe drives a blue 2009 Mitsubishi Lancer.
Anyone with information on his whereabouts are asked to call 911 or the non-emergency police number in San Marcos at 512-753-2108.
