Nonprofit's bus tagged with slurs

Bus provided technology tutoring for students

KYLE, Texas (KXAN) - Sharing and giving is what was engrained in James Jacobs when he was growing up.

“I love helping people people. Our father grew us up helping,” said Jacobs.

That is why Jacobs created Now Youth Inc., a nonprofit organization providing technology tutoring to students using a mobile computer lab bus.

But the vulgar slurs and words spray-painted on the bus sometime Tuesday night shows that not everyone is quite as generous.

“I was absolutely shocked,” said Jacobs. “As you know it is hard for nonprofits to grab money so we will have to start all over.”

The bus not only was spray-painted, but wires from the engine were ripped out and there were obvious signs that someone was trying to break into the bus.

Laptops and computer equipment inside were not damaged.

“I don’t know anybody who would want to damage or hurt this organization,” said Jacobs.

Ironically, the bus was sitting in the parking lot of the Word of Life Church which is run by Jacobs’ father. The Jacobs family was busy preparing a community Thanksgiving dinner for up to 200 people on Wednesday night.

“It is sad that they will have to see this,” said Jacobs about the bus. “It is really sad.”

Kyle Police Department said a few other vehicles were also tagged on Tuesday night.

Jacobs vowed to keep tutoring with Now Youth Inc ., but for a nonprofit built primarily on donations, it will take time.

“We have given time and effort and it is sad to see someone took something so precious to us and our community and make it a mockery.”
