HAYS COUNTY, Texas (KXAN) - The Hays Consolidated Independent School District school board voted 5-2 to changethe district's dress code to ban the Confederate flag.
The district has been grappling with issues of racial sensitivity for the past several months after an African-American teacher's classroom was vandalized with offensive graffiti.
Under an item on the school board agenda, the administration recommends that the board prohibit "any clothing, grooming, or display of images that cause, or in the principal or designee’s judgment may reasonably be predicted to cause, disruption of or interference with school activities ... including, but not limited to display of the Confederate flag."
