HAYS COUNTY, Texas (KXAN) - The Hays County Commissioners Court declared an immediate burn ban on Thursday for all of the entire county, and it could remain in effect for as long as 90 days.
The ban prohibits any kind of outdoor burning and also the use of certain fireworks skyrockets with sticks and missiles with fins.
Under the law all outdoor burning is prohibited except for charcoal and gas grills with lids and for certain exceptions approved by the Hays County Fire Marshal.
“We’ve concluded that a burn ban is necessary to help prevent the threat of wildfires in Hays County,” Hays County Judge Bert Cobb said.
According to Cobb, the drought index in the area had reached extremely high levels causing the ground to be very dry making vegetation “a source of fuel for any spark. ”
