SAN MARCOS, Texas (KXAN) - San Marcos Police were trying to identify a bicyclist who was killed early Monday in a collision with a tractor-trailer on the southbound access road of Interstate Highway 35.
The semi driver called San Marcos police about the collision at 2:04 a.m., which occurred in the 5600 block of the southbound lane of the access road in a dark area unlit by street lights. The area is south of exit 199.
The driver told police that he crested a hill and saw the bicyclist in the center of the right lane. The driver hit his brakes but was unable to avoid hitting the bicycle.
The victim was described as a white man in his late 30s or early 40s, 130 pounds, 5 foot 7 inches to 5 foot 10 inches in height, with long shaggy-brown graying hair. He was dressed in a gray T-shirt, gray shorts and desert tan combat boots.
According to investigators, the bicycle did not have a headlight or rear red reflector required by state law for night time operation of a bicycle.
