BEE CAVES, Texas (KXAN) - Will old man winter stay around or is Texas on target to seeing warmer weather ahead, in the Lonestar state Armadillo “Bee Cave Bob” just might have the answer.

The annual Armadillo Day celebration in Bee Cave kicked off Saturday with anxious onlookers asking the question, “Will Bob see his shadow?”

The Lonestar Weatherological Society say the most reliable climatological data comes from the Armadillo.

According to the group, Armadillo Bob’s predictions have been right 98.6-percent of the time.

The spectacle on Saturday came filled with the singing of the “Armadillo Anthem” followed by an “Armadillo Song” and eventually Bee Cave Bob coming out of his hole to predict the coming of spring.

So, what did Bob see? According to the thick shelled fella, Texans should see an early spring and a wetter one at that. If you believe what Punxsutawney Phil has to say about the matter, well he agrees, expect an early spring.

Historically, the ceremonial annual observation of "Bee Cave Bob" and his ancestors occurred in a small community northeast of Corsicana, Texas.

The undisclosed “West Pole” location was open to the public and media.
