2 arrested in shooting in Hays County

HAYS COUNTY, Texas (KXAN) - Two men were arrested after a shooting Thursday morning that started as a robbery attempt in Buda's Oak Forest subdivision, authorities said.

The Hays County Sheriff's Office said the shots were fired near Mourning Dove Lane in Buda, then the suspects made their was to Dripping Springs where they were apprehended.

Justin Hernandez, 24, and 29-year-old Gary Zuniga were charged with aggravated burglary, evading arrest and being felon in possession of a firearm.

The arrests happened after police said the pair were attempting to enter someone's home and fired on a resident. The person was not hit, but a vehicle was. The resident called authorities and the sheriff's office pursued the men who drove off in a pickup truck, authorities said.

The incident started at around 9:15 a.m. both men were in custody by 11 a.m. SWAT officers and a police dog assisted in the search.

The Dripping Springs school district to the situation and all schools were briefly placed on lock out as a precaution. The heightened security lasted about 10 minutes until sheriffs office gave the district the all clear.
