KYLE, Texas (KXAN) - Aqua Texas, Inc. has reported a discharge of more than 100,000 gallons of partially treated wastewater containing solids from a final clarifier at the city of Kyle wastewater treatment plant.
An upset of the sludge blanket in the clarifier occurred sometime between Thursday and Monday.
Aqua has mobilized vacuum trucks to clean up Plum Creek downstream of the discharge.
The conditions that led to the discharge of solids from the clarifier are still under review by Aqua.
Aqua has notified representatives of the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality.
Texas Commission on Environmental Quality spokeswoman Andrea Morrow said TCEQ officials went out after the spill on Tuesday, but it was dark. Cleanup continued on Wednesday. TCEQ has taken samples of the area to have analyzed. She said a fallen tree created a natural dam, stopping the flow, and that the clarifier at the plant needs repair.
No fish kill has been observed. Live fish have been observed in the creek.
Cleanup trucks are on the scene where Plumb Creek crosses County Road 152, Heidenreich Road, about .25 miles downstream from the wastewater facility.
