HAYS COUNTY, Texas (KXAN) - A multi-car crash involving an 18-wheeler has claimed the life of one person late Tuesday.

Hays County Sheriff's Office said the crash happened at State Highway 21 and Farm to Market Road 2720.

Robbie Barrara, spokesman from Texas Department of Public Safety, said a sedan was heading westbound on Hwy. 21 when the driver ran the car off the road on the right side, overcorrected and went into the eastbound lanes, where it struck an 18-wheeler car hauler.

The car caught on fire in the collision, but flames quickly put out by fire department crews.

The driver of the sedan died at the scene.

There was no information provided about the driver of the tractor-trailer nor if the sedan was carrying any passengers.

Hwy. 21 is closed and traffic being diverted. Officials do not know how long the road will be closed.

DPS is on the scene as lead investigative agency while HCSO assists with traffic control and scene security.
