AUSTIN (KXAN) - With the summer sizzle fast approaching, dermatologists are warning people to protect themselves against the sun's harmful rays.

However, some Austin area dermatologists recommend green skincare this summer. Ted Lain, a dermatologist with Steiner Ranch Dermatology, recommends all-natural, green skin care.

Lain advises topical sun protection such as:

  • Vitamin C
  • Vitamin E
  • Green tea
  • sunscreen with zinc oxide and titanium dioxide

Minerals such as zinc oxide and titanium dioxide actually reflect the sun's rays.

These methods help protect skin naturally, and Lain also recommends Heliocare, which is made from fern extract.

May is Skin Cancer Awareness Month. The Skin Cancer Foundation reports skin cancer is the most common form of cancer in the United States, with more than 1 million skin cancer diagnoses annually.
