BASTROP COUNTY, Texas (KXAN) - Two men are dead in a Monday morning crash on State Highway 95 south of Elgin.

Texas Department of Public Safety troopers responded to the scene of the wreck that happened around 6:30 a.m. on SH-95 near Jordan Lane. The collision involved a small Chevy car and a Ford pickup truck.

The car was traveling southbound on the highway, while the pickup was heading north.

"It looks like the white Chevy ran off the road, lost control, overcorrected and went into the path of the Ford pickup, and they impacted," said DPS Trooper Craig Swantner.

The driver of the Chevy has been identified as Evan Zapata, 22, of Bastrop County. The driver of the Ford pickup that was struck has been identified as Clayton Bushman, 59, from Seguin.

The Bastrop County Sheriff's Office reports the highway was shut down for a couple of hours while DPS investigated the crash site. By 9:30 a.m. traffic was moving in the area again.
